Do you know the Puss in Boots well? On the occasion of his big comeback in the DreamWorks movie Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish, currently in theaters, Ziggy shares with you 10 things to know about the most famous cat in leather boots.
Puss in Boots is back in theaters!
For the holiday season, our favorite feline, lover of licking, burglar, and fearless challenger, Puss in Boots, is back in the DreamWorks movie Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish.
To mark his grand return, Ziggy is proud to partner with the DreamWorks movie Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish (currently in theaters) to bring a magical and tasty Christmas to all our little companions.
Puss in Boots is the most famous cat, but what does he have in store for us in this new installment? Here are 10 things to know about Puss in Boots (perfect to impress at the coffee machine!)
10 things to know about Puss in Boots
1/ "I am known by many names..."
Our favorite feline has many names. Did you know that some call him El Macho Tomcat, The Licker of Lick, or Iron Paw? Legendary nicknames that suit him so well.
2/ After 11 years away, Puss in Boots hasn’t aged a bit
DreamWorks' Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish is the most anticipated film of the year-end. And for good reason: it’s been 11 years since we last saw his charming little face on the big screen! The first film was released on November 16, 2011.
For his big return, younger audiences can finally see him in theaters, with a big popcorn jump included. Yes, what would a good movie session be without sweet or salty popcorn? At Ziggy, we're team salty popcorn 😺
11 years is a long time, but rest assured, Puss hasn’t aged a bit. We’d love to know his secret of youth!
3/ But he has used up 8 of his 9 lives!
In this new chapter of the DreamWorks Shrek saga, our hero with the seductive gaze will discover that his passion for adventure and disregard for danger have come at a high price: he has used up eight of his nine lives!
So to land on his feet again, Puss in Boots embarks literally on the quest of his life and sets off on an epic journey through the Black Forest to find the Star of the Ultimate Wish, the only one that can restore his lost lives.
A dangerous and fantastic quest that will keep all viewers on the edge of their seats!
4/ Kitty Softpaws will help Puss again
Since he only has one life left, Puss will have to show humility and ask for help from his former partner and lifelong best enemy: the captivating Kitty Softpaws, whom we met in the first Puss in Boots film released in 2011. Will these two manage to get along? Find out in DreamWorks Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish, currently in theaters. 😺
5/ Perro, Puss in Boots' new companion
In their quest, Puss and Kitty will be reluctantly helped by Perro.
Perro is not a cat but a little dog who dreams of becoming a therapy assistance dog. A true chatterbox who accepts his constant misfortunes and adversity without ever giving up, with an unshakable grace and humor. Even in the worst situations, he can focus on the light at the end of the tunnel.
By meeting Puss and Kitty, he finds himself propelled into a world as exciting as it is dangerous, where his simple good sense and relentless optimism make him, against all odds, the ideal traveling companion.
6/ Puss in Boots will meet fairy tale characters
In DreamWorks Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish, Puss, Kitty Softpaws, and Perro will have to face characters who rocked (or terrified) our childhood.
We find Goldilocks, who in this new chapter is a teenager leading the Three Bears gang. Raised in the wild, she is wild, with a strong temperament and usually in a bear’s mood.
The Three Bears gang is composed of Baby Bear, Papa Bear, and Mama Bear. But don’t be fooled by these three, they are ready to do anything to find the mythical Star of the Ultimate Wish with Goldilocks.
Puss and his allies will also cross paths with "Big" Jack Horner and the Big Bad Wolf, probably the most fearsome opponent Puss has ever faced. He is no ordinary bounty hunter. He represents everything Puss fears most, a supernatural character haunting the border between life and death, and even beyond. Fast as lightning, he wields two sickles with the dexterity of the worst highwaymen.
7/ Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek Pinault, a chic and shocking duo
Oscar nominee Antonio Banderas once again lends his voice to the famous Puss in Boots. And to play the beautiful Kitty Softpaws, we again find Oscar-nominated actress Salma Hayek Pinault. Wow!
8/ A 5-star cast for Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish
Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek Pinault lend their voices respectively to Puss in Boots and Kitty Softpaws. A duo worthy of the greatest Hollywood movies! But in DreamWorks Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish, other great actors also lend their voices.
- Perro is voiced by Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows).
- Goldilocks is voiced by Oscar-nominated actress Florence Pugh, known for Black Widow.
- In the Three Bears gang, Samson Kayo, a rising star of British comedy who appeared in the series Sliced, voices Baby Bear. Papa Bear is played by Ray Winstone (Black Widow), and Mama Bear by Oscar winner Olivia Colman for The Favourite.
- "Big" Jack Horner is voiced by John Mulaney (Big Mouth), Emmy Award winner, and the Big Bad Wolf is voiced by Wagner Moura, known on TV as the ruthless drug lord Pablo Escobar in the series Narcos.
- Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish also features a high-profile comedic cast. We find Emmy Award nominee Anthony Mendez (Jane the Virgin) and Tony Award nominee Da'Vine Joy Randolph (Trolls World Tour).
9/ A new era for Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish
The DreamWorks film Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish is directed by Joel Crawford and produced by Mark Swift, the creative team behind the DreamWorks hit The Croods: A New Age. The film’s executive producer is Chris Meledandri, founder and CEO of Illumination.
If you loved the world of The Croods 2: A New Age, you will adore DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish, currently in theaters!
10/ A cat worth billions
The character of Puss in Boots first appeared in Shrek 2, the Oscar-nominated 2004 film, immediately becoming a favorite among audiences worldwide (and GIF lovers who have used his famous look millions of times). Since then, he has starred in all Shrek sequels, his own film, and numerous videos or TV series produced by DreamWorks Animation. Shrek and Puss in Boots have grossed over $3.5 billion worldwide! Probably the richest cat on the planet!
We can’t wait to see our favorite mustached hero again. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, go watch it quickly! At Ziggy, we’ve probably watched it at least 1240 times. 😹 It’s pawsome!
Genetic traits, freckles, personality... Find out everything about ginger cats and their amazing characteristics.
1/ Their coat color is due to pheomelanin
Pheomelanin is one of the two main pigments in biological melanin. It is present in small amounts in all coat types, but in larger quantities in ginger cats. It is this pigment that gives them their red color!
2/ The red hides other colors!
In ginger cats, the expression of the orange gene masks the expression of the black gene. Therefore, the shades of red vary depending on the color hidden beneath.
For example, an orange coat, known as "red," can hide black or chocolate colors. A cat with a cream-colored (diluted red) coat will likely hide a blue, lilac, or fawn color.
3/ Different types of ginger coats
There is a wide variety of ginger coats! By "ginger," we mean the coat can be orange, red, or sandy. While most ginger cats are tabby, some can be bicolored, and others might only have patches of ginger.
There is the "mackerel" pattern, which resembles the stripes of a mackerel fish. There is also the marble pattern, which is like a tabby coat but with wider stripes covering the entire body.
4/ There is no exclusively ginger cat breed
All cat breeds can have a ginger coat. Ginger fur can appear in purebred cats as well as in domestic cats. Among purebred cats, ginger coats are seen in Maine Coons and Persians.
5/ But only some breeds accept ginger
For certain breeds, ginger fur can even be a disqualifying trait for eligibility in the LOOF (French pedigree registry). For example, ginger is "accepted" in Maine Coons, Persians, Norwegian Forest Cats, and British Shorthairs.
Gus, the ginger cat from Ziggy Family
6/ A genetic feature
Let's simplify it: the "O" gene is directly linked to the ginger color. It is carried by the X chromosome, so it is sex-linked. A male has one X chromosome and one Y chromosome. If his X chromosome carries the O gene (XoY), he will be ginger; otherwise, he will have a different color (XY). A female has two X chromosomes. She will only be ginger if both X chromosomes carry the O gene (XoXo).
7/ Ginger cats are mostly males
We know that most tortoiseshell cats are female, but with ginger cats, the opposite is true, with about 80% being males and only 20% females.
As explained earlier, for females, both parents determine the coat color, and they must have the O gene twice. That's why females are rarer!
8/ Ginger cats can have freckles
Just like humans, our ginger cats can have freckles! They're usually harder to spot but are often visible around the nose, and they are absolutely adorable! Unlike human freckles, those on cats are black.
9/ The most famous cat in the world is ginger
Ginger cats inspire! On the movie front, we immediately think of the heroic, fearless, sword-wielding feline from Shrek: Puss in Boots! Undoubtedly the most famous ginger cat worldwide, Puss in Boots captured the hearts of millions of viewers, with his charming boots, hat, and imploring eyes.
In late 2022, our beloved ginger hero made his big return to the big screen in a new adventure: Puss in Boots 2 - The Last Wish.
In this new film, Puss has discovered that his reckless adventures have cost him eight of his nine lives, and he embarks on the quest of a lifetime to reclaim them with his old companion, Kitty Softpaws.
To celebrate Puss's return, Ziggy has partnered with Puss in Boots 2 - The Last Wish to make this Christmas magical and delicious for all our little cats.
10/ Ginger cats have a unique personality (and that's why we love them!)
Of course, coat color doesn't determine personality, but ginger cats are often described as a bit jealous. At the same time, they are incredibly affectionate and love to cuddle in your arms!
We love them like a true family member, so we make sure to feed them optimally with complete, high-protein cat food!
Every cat is unique, and ginger cats bring joy to their families! So, why not consider adopting an adorable ginger cat from a shelter or rescue?
Having a cat is hard work! When you come home from work, a second life awaits you; that of being at the service of our beloved whiskered friend. Our cats are very demanding bosses, much more than our human bosses. And beware of the slightest mistake! At Ziggy, we had fun compiling the 10 jobs we perform when we have a cat at home.
To be honest, we could have gone well beyond 10. Feel free to add to this list in the comments 😺
1/ Butler
When you have a cat, you are at His Majesty's service 24/7. And taking any time off is impossible. Mr. Cat needs his meal served at any hour (hello 4 a.m. wake-ups!), his litter box cleaned regularly, and plenty of cozy spots for long naps.
2/ Doorman
We also spend our days opening the door for him. He wants to go out, come in, then go out again and come back in. Without even tipping us… Sometimes he even meows at the door and just stares at us. If only His Majesty the cat could make up his mind…
3/ Cook
Almost. You have to prepare his bowl with his favorite pâté and kibbles. And often at fixed times! Luckily Ziggy is here. If we had to cook as well, that would be the last straw!
4/ Cleaning agent
When you have a cat, you also spend your days or evenings cleaning up after him: the bits of litter he kindly scattered all over the house, the hair he left on the couch (or on our clothes), or the little vomit he left on the carpet…
Psst: if you’re tired of playing Hansel and Gretel with your vacuum cleaner, try our Ziggy litter! Natural, compostable, and biodegradable, our litter is low-dust, soft on paws, and non-sticky. 😽
5/ Pedicurist
Yes, those claws need to be trimmed. And who has to do it? Us! The worst part: we often get a few scratches on the forearm.
6/ Hairdresser
Another job we do when we have a cat: hairdresser! Our whiskered friends need a little brushing to have a beautiful coat, but also to avoid hairballs forming in their stomachs, which can pose a risk of intestinal blockage if too large. But this grooming service is not without risks, especially if you brush the dangerous zone: the belly 🙀
7/ Masseur
His Majesty loves strokes but is very demanding: “A little here, a little there... I also want belly rubs but only for 2 minutes or I’ll scratch you.”
8/ Press officer
Our second job is also that of press officer: we take photos of our whiskered friend and show him off on all social networks. My cat, the star!
9/ Treasure hunter
Yes, like Indiana Jones! We look for his toys under the sofa, under the bed, or under the furniture. We find kibble in his closet, in his slippers, bits of cardboard behind the curtains, etc. And sometimes, the treasure is our cat himself! He hides in impossible places!
10/ Bodyguard
Our whiskered friends are our babies and we protect them. We make sure they have nothing wrong and lack nothing, and above all, beware of anyone who speaks badly about them!
Our cats demand a lot of work from us, but they reward us well (when they want). 💛
Do cats dream? Many of us wonder about this question. Let's not beat around the yarn ball, the answer is yes! Our cats can dream just like we do. But what do they dream about? At Ziggy, we have our little idea!
As a cat parent, you have probably already seen your cat behave strangely while sleeping; their whiskers twitch, their tail flicks in all directions or bristles, their paws move, their eyelids flutter, their body twitches. It's like they are possessed by the God of kibbles and pâté. Sometimes, they even make tiny meows (miii, aaa, miii, ouuuu). Watching your little cat, you might think they are dreaming. But is that really the case?
Do cats dream?
In humans – meaning us, the butlers, masseurs, cleaners, etc. of our cats – the sleep cycle unfolds in 4 distinct phases: the falling asleep phase, light sleep, deep sleep, and REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. REM sleep is thought to be when dreams occur. During this phase, our sleep is deepest, yet our brain is most active (hence the name).
No study has yet been able to confirm with 100% certainty that we necessarily dream during REM sleep, but various experiments have shown that it is often the case. People awakened during this phase describe their dreams with more detail than those awakened during other phases.
Our beloved cats experience the sleep cycle in exactly the same way: falling asleep, light sleep, deep sleep, and REM sleep. In 1959, Michel Jouvet, a neurophysiologist, discovered REM sleep in cats.
In an interview with the magazine Science et Avenir (special December 1996 issue), he explains: “The discovery of dream-like behaviors allows (...) to suppose that some animals have dreams. The best-known case from our lab is the cat. By destroying the Locus coeruleus alpha responsible for muscle atonia, it was observed that the cat during REM sleep displayed new characteristics. It mimicked very structured and typical behaviors of its species such as attacking and chasing imaginary prey, licking, fear responses, combat postures…".
So yes, our cats do dream! Like us, they can dream or even have nightmares (depending on what’s going on in their little heads). A nightmare for our little companions might be a visit to the vet or the arrival of another cat or dog at home. 😹
What do cats dream about?
Our cats can dream during their sleep, but the nature of their dreams remains a great mystery. Unlike us, they cannot tell us their dream stories upon waking – although we would love that. 😻
During our sleep, the brain generally processes information gathered during the day, reliving scenes and past situations. For our cats, it could be the same; they might dream of their hunting game in the garden, the neighbor knocking on the door, the food bowl taken upstairs, or the ball stuck under the living room sofa. The scenarios are many.
That said, at Ziggy, we have other ideas about what our cats might dream of. Here are 5.
#1 Cats dream of their kibbles and pâté
Especially if they are Ziggy’s kibbles and pâté 😻
Proof: according to a study conducted by the Cat Sleep Institute and commissioned by the Cat President of France (elected by universal suffrage during the feline presidential campaign of April 2022), all cats in the Ziggy Family dream of Ziggy’s kibbles and pâté. Without exception!
#2 They dream of being Kings of the World
Aren't they already???
#3 They dream of “speaking” human
Because it might come in handy sometimes…
#4 They dream of finally catching the red laser dot
And that will never happen 😹
#5 They dream of us
We do a lot for our little cats, so the least they can do is dream of us sometimes, right?
Our cats are mysterious beings, whose secrets we'd love to unravel. Speaking of sleep, do you know why your little cat likes to sleep on you? We share some answers in this article: why my cat likes to sleep on me.
We wish sweet dreams to all our beloved cats. They deserve it 💛
Getting back into sports, going to bed early… The start of the school year is often the chance to make good resolutions. That said, it’s not just us humans who should make some; our whiskered friends should too! Here are 10 good resolutions that every one of our cats should take (even if they won’t all keep them).
#1 Stop scratching the sofa
Because we’ve run out of throws to hide the damage.
Picollo, member of the Ziggy Family and currently the king of sofa scratching
#2 Stop waking us up at 4 a.m.
Otherwise, here’s a deal: 7 a.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. on weekends. Is that possible?
Rio, Camille’s nocturnal terror, who demands his Ziggy pâté every night
#3 Leave us a little space in bed
Promise, we won’t move a paw!
Jasco, member of the Ziggy Family who gets a little too comfortable
#4 Respect our privacy
In the bathroom, in the shower… It’s stronger than them, our whiskered friends want to be everywhere with us. Yes, we love our furballs, but some moments are too private to share, aren’t they?!
#5 Exercise more
Even if their little bellies and chubby faces make us melt, we mustn’t forget that overweight and obesity can cause serious health problems in our cats, sometimes irreversible (urinary or kidney disorders, diabetes, arthritis, etc.). So this season, no more naps, kibble, or grooming. A few jumps on the cat tree, 5 minutes of ball play, an extra quarter of an hour of fun… Kitty, get moving!
If your little companion suffers from obesity, don’t hesitate to read our article: My cat is obese, what food should I give him?
#6 Be a not-too-intrusive cat-assistant
“Dear boss, I can’t work because of my cat.” Not sure that would fly…
Ineka, a very (too) involved cat in remote work
#7 Give fewer presents
Birds, mice... If our little companions give us presents, it’s to tell us we are poor hunters. No need to do it often, we’ve got the message 😸
#8 Steal breakfast (or snack)
Everyone has their own bowl!
Fripouille, member of the Ziggy Family and waffle addict.
#9 Keep making us laugh
Because they are the best at this. And let’s be honest, without them, our daily life would be pretty sad.
#10 And give us lots of love!
Despite everything, we love our furballs. It’s actually their little flaws that make them so unique. In the end, don’t change a thing. You are our greatest love story ❤️
Sidonie and Saia, two adorable members of the Ziggy Family
We are convinced: our cats started taking over humanity a long time ago. Still doubt it? Here are 10 proofs that their enslavement has only just begun...
1. Several cities already bear their name: Chaville, Chatoux, Chaton, Chatte... Do you live in one of these towns? Beware, you are no longer on your own territory...

5. Our cats are absent for long hours at night.Rumor has it they organize neighborhood meetings to fine-tune their enslavement of humanity...
6. We suspect they use hypnosis through purring...By the way, what did we do yesterday between 8 PM and midnight… only they know.
7. They reproduce very fast:While we struggle to bring a little human into the world in 9 months, our cats can give birth to 4 to 8 kittens every two months... So, who are the lazy ones? 😼
8. They have inspired dozens of songs:Cat People (David Bowie), Cool Cat (Queen), Le Chat (Pow Wow), Le Chat (Claude Nougaro), Cat's in the Well (Bob Dylan), Stray Cat Blues (The Rolling Stones)... Do you have a song named after you? Not so sure!
9. Our cats invented the Photo Bomb:A simple warning to remind you who really is the center of humanity.
10. We came very close (really close) to electing a cat as head of the Feline Republic in 2022 (really close, huh).
Meanwhile, cats have definitely taken power... at the Museum! In 2022, the Ziggy Félinentielles posters entered the collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris...
One small step for our cats, one giant leap for Felinity! (and especially a huge pride for us!).
In May, my cat does whatever it wants. Actually, like the rest of the year. And because we love their cheekiness, we made you a top 15 of cats who really do just as they please.

Feeding your kitten properly
Welcoming a kitten into your home is a big moment. It’s the start of a beautiful love story ❤️ You’ll experience lots of joy and probably many laughs with your new companion.
But aside from a name, have you thought about their diet?
A kitten is not just a miniature cat. It’s a baby in full growth, just like a human baby, and needs an adapted, healthy, and complete diet to grow and stay healthy.
This diet must meet all their nutritional needs: quality animal proteins (source of 11 essential amino acids), fats (essential fatty acids), minerals, and vitamins.
Otherwise, your little one could suffer from deficiencies, growth delays, or health issues such as poor immune response or neurological disorders.
At Ziggy, our priority is making cats happy, and we feed them accordingly. We offer kitten kibble and wet food for kittens, formulated by Dr. Géraldine Blanchard, feline nutrition expert.
Are you looking for the best dry food to keep your cat purring and his tummy happy? Here are a few insights and tips to help you choose the right food for your cat.
Wet food best meets your cat's natural needs, provided it contains premium ingredients! Here are a few expert tips for looking after their well-being and choosing the best wet food for your fluffy friend.
Your kitten’s just been neutered, and you probably have lots of questions about his diet. Should you feed your neutered kitten adult cat food? Can you still give dry food for kittens to your neutered kitten? When and how should his diet be changed? Don’t worry, we tell you all about it in this article.
