How isour delicious wet food made?

Treat your cat to Ziggy's delicious wet food, a simple way of caring for his health!

Made in Normandy, France, our wet food is starch-free (i.e. grain-free) and low in calories. It’s made using premium animal proteins that keep your furry friend healthy and delight him day after day!

Wet food provides better hydration for your cat (cats aren’t natural drinkers) and bulks up his portion. A mixed diet, made up of Ziggy dry food and wet food, will meet your furry friend’s nutritional needs perfectly and allows him to live his best life.

She guarantees extremely strict quality control and in-depth nutritional analysis to guarantee the best possible health for our cats.

Frequently asked questionsabout Ziggy Wet Food for Senior Cats

Ziggy wet food for cats is unique! All our products are formulated by Dr Géraldine Blanchard, a veterinarian expert in feline nutrition with 25 years of experience. They contain only the good stuff, no carcass scraps, reconstituted meat, tendons, cartilage, etc. They are also starch-free, i.e. they contain no starchy foods and are very low in carbs to keep your cat happy, healthy and full of purrs! Artificial colourings, preservatives, nitrites and flavour enhancers are banned from all our recipes. And all the ingredients we use are listed on the back of the label, for total transparency.

A cat is considered senior from the age of 8.

Note, however, that this is an average as some cats are more fragile than others. These include pedigree cats, which generally live slightly shorter lives than European cats.

A cat over 8 years old is considered old, but it can still be in good health and remain ‘young’ at heart.

Over the age of 15, however, your little cat falls into the so-called ‘geriatric’ category. This is a rather pejorative name, since a little cat aged 16, 17 or even 20 can still be doing very well.

From the age of 8, we consider a cat to be a senior cat.

Just like kittens, senior cats need a suitable diet. Over time, our little furry friends become a little more fragile, and their physiological and nutritional needs are no longer the same.

Contrary to popular belief, older cats absolutely do not need a lower protein intake. Quite the opposite! Their food must be rich in protein to maintain their muscle mass.

We generally recommend a diet predominantly based around wet food for several reasons, especially for senior cats:

- Wet food has fewer calories than dry food, but is still very filling! So a cat fed mainly on wet food will be less likely to become overweight or obese, and therefore less likely to develop diabetes.

- Thanks to wet food, his urine will be less concentrated and more diluted, limiting the risk of urinary problems and protecting his kidneys.

Therefore, we advise you to feed your cat a predominantly moist diet.

In Ziggy's case, the wet food is lower in calories, low in minerals, grain-free and starch-free - in short, everything you need to protect your furry friend's health and keep him purring.

We also offer a wet food recipe specially formulated for our little seniors. This recipe contains less phosphorus, premium protein and fatty acids to relieve joint pain.

You can also find our top tips for feeding your senior cat in our guide!

Our IRC wet food is specially formulated to meet the needs of cats suffering from chronic kidney disease. This wet food is rich in premium protein, which helps maintain good muscle health. It also contains fatty acids (EPA and DHA) to support kidney function, and is low in phosphorus to protect the kidneys.

As there is no cure for kidney failure, it's vital to provide your furry friend with a diet that's adapted to his needs, so as to preserve his health as much as possible. So, as you can see, we encourage you to give him only a CKD food that's adapted to his needs!

Our dry and wet food are not exclusively intended for neutered adult cats. We have different ranges of products:

💛 For Kittens (up to 12 months):

You'll find wet food and dry food for kittens. These are developed to fully nourish a neutered kitten, but quantities must be adjusted.

😻 For Adult Cats:

You'll find a whole range of wet food for adult cats recipes, as well as dry food for adult cats, for both neutered and intact adult cats.

The wet food for intact adult cats is slightly more caloric than those for neutered adult cats, which is why we specifically design our products this way.

The nutritional needs of adult cats, whether neutered or intact, remain the same. It's only the caloric requirement that drops by 20% after neutering. The idea's simply to adjust the daily portion according to your cat's caloric needs. For this, you can use our Daily Portion Calculator.

💙 For Cats with conditions: We've developed a Vet range to support diabetic cats, cats with renal impairment, or cats suffering from urinary problems. We're working on future products to assist cats with other conditions in their daily lives.

Our recipes have been formulated by Dr Géraldine Blanchard, a veterinary specialising in feline nutrition. Our high-quality wet food is formulated around the most advanced knowledge in feline nutrition.

Our recipes follow very strict specifications. We have banned most of the ingredients used by the pet food industry: carcass scraps, MSM (mechanically separated meat), meat meal, starch, nitrites, flavourings, etc.

In addition to the few raw materials we allow, we are determined to source our meat in France, and refuse to use meat products from the other side of the world (like lamb, for example, which comes mainly from New Zealand). Pork has the advantage of being a lean, ‘white’ meat that is low in calories and available in sufficient quantities in France, where it’s widely consumed. What's more, the region in which our plant is located (in Normandy) is a pork and beef farming area. Pork is a meat that is particularly well suited to adult, neutered and sedentary cats, as it is low in calories and rich in quality proteins.

Ziggy cat food should be kept in a cool, dry place, away from heat and light. Your furry friend will have no problem eating it up to the used-by date you’ll find on the product’s packaging.

Once opened, a wet food tray can be kept in the fridge for 48 hours (preferably in a closed container). Dry food should be kept closed in a cool, dry place once opened. Ideally, dry food should be eaten within 6 to 8 weeks.

For more details on storing Ziggy products, please refer to our article.

As we only work with fresh raw materials from our partner breeders, the texture and/or color of our wet food can vary slightly from one production batch to the next.

This is perfectly natural and can vary according to the season or meat supplies.

Each batch of wet food goes through rigorous quality control and nutritional analysis to ensure it lives up to the standards we set ourselves. However, slight variations in taste or texture may still occur.

The more natural the product, the more it’s subject to these sorts of variations. We could control this by adding nitrite, but we don’t. We would rather embrace these natural characteristics and guarantee your cat a healthy diet.

Although starch-free and very low in carbohydrates and minerals, the Ziggy range of wet food is not specifically formulated for cats with medical conditions. We advise you to talk to your vet, and show them the detailed composition of our recipes.

You can also find our Ziggy Vet range, which includes a Wet Food for cats with diabetes, a Wet Food for cats with kidney problems and a Wet Food for cats with urinary tract problems.

Our recipes have been formulated by Dr Géraldine Blanchard, a veterinary specialized in feline nutrition. Our high-quality wet food is formulated around the most advanced knowledge in feline nutrition.

- Wet food has fewer calories than dry food! Cats fed mainly or entirely on wet food are less likely to become overweight or obese.

- When wet food accounts for at least 75% of the diet of a neutered, sedentary cat, it reduces their risk of diabetes. What’s more, all our wet food is starch-free (a major source of carbohydrates) and sugar-free!

- Thanks to wet food, cats get more water than if they ate dry food and drank on the side. This helps them produce more urine, reducing their risk of developing urinary problems.

- At Ziggy, we're no minimalists: essential nutrients are provided in generous quantities. The first visible proof of this being a magnificent coat.

- Finally, by choosing quality wet food, you're investing in your cat's health and saving on vet bills.

Cats like to cling to their habits; they don't always like change! For a successful dietary transition, both in terms of digestion and behavior, we recommend incorporating Ziggy's wet food gradually into their diet. If you need personalized nutritional support, you can download our E-book on how to manage a gentle dietary transition.

Here's what we recommend for a successful dry food transition:

Mix a little Ziggy into their usual dry food and serve as normal.

- Day 1: 10% ZIGGY - 90% Usual dry food

- Day 2: 20% ZIGGY - 80% Usual dry food

- Day 3: 30% ZIGGY - 70% Usual dry food& so on!

Once you've reached 100% ZIGGY dry food, wait a few days before starting the wet food transition!

Here's our suggestion for the wet food transition:

- Day 1: Half a teaspoon of ZIGGY's mixed with their usual wet food.

It's really important to mix both thoroughly with a fork to achieve a homogeneous consistency.

- Day 2: One teaspoon of ZIGGY's mixed with their usual wet food.

& So on... you get the idea, the transition should be very gradual 🐢

Your cat's never had wet food? Anything is possible with a little patience!

Start with a teaspoon of Ziggy wet food each day added to a small dry food meal.

Repeat that each day until the wet food gets eaten. Then, gradually increase the amount day by day (while decreasing the amount of dry food available, you don't want your cat to end up on a double portion!).

If you have any questions, feel free to write to us: hello@ziggyfamily.com, our team will be happy to help you!

Don't worry, as long as you stick to a very gradual transition, the (vast) majority of cats love their Ziggy dry food and wet food!

However, if your cat's fussy and has trouble changing his diet, feel free to take a look at our transition guide or write an email to our team: hello@ziggyfamily.com, we'll offer personalized nutritional support and find a solution that works for your cat.
